FIELD EXPERIENCE

Three stretches of coast, three ways of working

La Vela, Due Sorelle and Passetto have different shapes and access routes. We will use them to work on camera position, shutter speed, filters and the balance between rock and moving water.

What we will do in the field

We will test ND, polarising and graduated filters only when the scene calls for them: to control contrast, read reflections and decide how much texture to keep in the waves.

The panoramic viewpoint over Due Sorelle takes about 45 minutes on foot. La Vela and Seggiola del Papa let us work much closer to sea level.

The schedule will follow tides, wind and light. Exact meeting times and locations will be shared with the group.

Three unique coastal locations to master composition, exposure times, and wave dynamics.

⛵ SPOT 1 • LA VELA

Scoglio della Vela (Portonovo)

Geometrie marine e luce d'alba

The triangular sea stack rises just beyond the pebble beach. We will compare short and long exposures to see how the water changes the balance of the frame.

🥾 SPOT 2 • LE DUE SORELLE (45 MIN CAMMINO)

I Faraglioni delle Due Sorelle

A 45-minute walk along the panoramic trail

We will reach the viewpoint after roughly 45 minutes through Mediterranean scrub. Here we will focus on distance, separation between the two sea stacks and clean frame edges.

👑 SPOT 3 • LA SEGGIOLA DEL PAPA

Passetto & La Seggiola del Papa

Sculpted cliffs and fishermen's caves

At Passetto we will use the sea stack, white rocks and cave doors as parts of the composition. We will work with wave movement and long exposures using Maven filters.

🎓 What You Will Learn

✓ Choose shutter speeds for moving water, from short exposures to a smooth surface
✓ Build compositions with cliffs, sea stacks and white pebbles in the foreground
✓ Use polarising, ND and GND filters by the sea
✓ Handle high-contrast coastal light at sunrise and sunset
✓ Move safely on coastal trails while carrying camera equipment

🎒 Recommended Gear

• Mirrorless or DSLR camera with manual controls
• Obiettivo grandangolare (es. 14-24mm o 16-35mm) e zoom standard (24-70mm)
• A sturdy tripod for rocks and pebble beaches
• Filtri ND (64, 1000), GND e Polarizzatore circolare
• A microfibre cloth for sea spray and salt
• Hiking boots with good grip for the 45-minute walk to Due Sorelle
• Abbigliamento a strati antivento e torcia frontale

ℹ️ Route note: The trail to the Due Sorelle viewpoint takes about 45 minutes. Hiking footwear with good grip is required.
